Church History
The history of God's amazing grace working through this church begins back in
1855 where settlers from Alabama gathered as a congregation known as Lane's
Chapel. They held their meetings in a log cabin near Pine Springs. The current
sanctuary was constructed in 1879 due to the settlement of Flatonia. Through
the years this congregation hosted several revivals. The most celebrated revival
was in the summer of 1890 when over two hundred souls were welcomed into the
family of God.
Beginning in 2001, the church organized a building project that remodeled and
expanded the already existing annex, which was originally constructed in 1950 out
of an old country school house. Lovingly dedicated "Newmann Hall" in 2003,
the new annex was named in remembrance of Rev. Henry and Opal Newmann,
who faithfully served at Christ's Church and the Flatonia community. The
purpose of the building project was to help our congregation minister to our
members and the surrounding community.
"Doing ministry" is nothing more than meeting people's needs in the name of
Jesus Christ. During the past 149 years of our history, and into the future, we
serve as part of Christ's Church working to create ministries based upon the
solid rock that is Jesus Christ. "Christ Jesus himself being the
cornerstone, in whom the whole structure is joined together and
grows into a holy temple in the Lord." (Ephesians 2:20)
